Baroque Garden in IMMA

The Baroque Garden next to IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) was renovated and replanted to a high standard.

The atmosphere is not unlike that found in the film
“Last Year in Marienbad”
(L’Année Dernière à Marienbad)
which was directed by Alain Resnais.

A Baroque effect relies on tight control in both planting
and maintenance.

It repays the effort.

Almost Black Tulips

I found these almost black tulips in full bloom in Harlow Carr, Yorkshire, at the end of May.
The stiff breeze that blew through the garden during much of our visit seemed to
bring the flowers to life.

While it was difficult to take photos that were sharp, the sense of movement
seems to be reflected in this somewhat dizzy photo.

“White roses and red roses: those were beautiful colours to think of. And the cards for first place and second place and third place were beautiful colours too: pink and cream and lavender. Lavender and cream and pink roses were beautiful to think of. Perhaps a wild rose might be like those colours and he remembered the song about the wild rose blossoms on the little green place. But you could not have a green rose. But perhaps somewhere in the world you could.”

Remembering Winter Light

April 27, 2008

I started using my new digital camera in Winter.
The startling light of Late Spring has brought some
changes.

These photos were taken indoors in very low light levels.
Just remembering…
