And Now for Something Different…

February 2, 2010

We’re off travelling again. Two nights and two jet-lagged days in Singapore provided excellent opportunities for communing with nature in all its forms.A quick Internet search led to the Lower Peirce Reservoir, a very peaceful expanse of water fringed by tropical forest. Home to very engaging Macaque monkeys, this area is well worth a visit and is very much off the tourist trail. A quick taxi ride (about 20 minutes, costing about 10 dollars) brought us there. Fisher folk were out, though whether or not it is easy to catch fish at midday in the Tropics remains a bit of a mystery. It was pleasant under the dense foliage and the monkeys, while shy, still lingered relatively close by as we photographed them. The dominant male was a little more expressive when it came to setting territories, and hissed when I did not back away fast enough. However, it was an amical visit and we left feeling refreshed from a gentle breeze that blew over the area. Baby Macaque
